    PPS was featured in an article written by Pike Research on the Microgrid System on Alcatraz Island, a former prison now run by the National Park Service in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Microgrid consists of  (8) PPS Grid-tied Inverters (GTIBs), a 350kW roof mounted solar array, 1900kWh battery bank, PPS Site Controller, and backup diesel generators. The system was put in place to dramatically reduce fuel usage and costs, meet San Francisco emissions standards, and reduce pollution in the Bay Area. The Microgrid functions as an independent energy source, powering the island without support from the electric grid.
